1/5th scale drift conversion has started. It's going to be a slow but exciting process.
This body is the test shell, but I still want it to be cool... so I pulled out some old chrome tape and "presto" the livery is coming together.
German with a JDM feel, the Drift Squid Advan car provided some inspiration.
but the Adidas feel is there too.
So the body is looking good for a cheap basher. A second prototype is also on the way.
We all know there is no 1/5 RWD drift chassis on the market, so this will be a 100% prototype.
Carson CY-Eline is the base for this. Already this has great ability as a 4WD fun chassis for touring car and it's low cost means it's ripe for conversion.
Even with import from Germany, I'm way under the price of a Baja5, and I'll have a MUCH better product in the end.
Now the chassis. A better look at the configuration and the potential changes.
In my first modification... I obtained some FG hub converters and fitted these with some M5 Bolts to the standard axle.
But there will be more discussion about tyre choice and wheel size later.
Because the offset is lower and the width is narrower for the stock rims, the FG spec tyres are about 5mm wider. At the moment I've solved this by adding camber . At the front this is 100% ok, but the rear may need a bit more thought.
Ive also been playing with shock position / spring ride height with different Droop settings as this chassis is very Flat and low compared to our current 1/10 setups.
these photos are lower ride height for stance pictures.
The standard 4WD system will be dis-assembled and a new lower arm will be moulded. The Steering wipers will be moved back and a longer sweep range will be created. Allowing for more angle.
At the moment it's still your regular 50:50 split 4WD chassis, but this will change after the next couple of runs as I replace the standard receiver and add gyro for RWD only.
So the mod list moving forward is.
Removal of 4WD Components
Centre diff Secure.
Lower Front Arm & Front knuckle lower mount
Steering Arm Extension
Ackerman Turnbuckle
